The fall of temperature in the mesosphere is an continuation of a similar trend in the troposphere. This trend is disrupted in the middle layer of stratosphere by the absorption of ultra-violet radiation by the ozone. But for this interruption, the fall of temperature with height would have continued from the surface of the ground to the top of the mesosphere.
