When I was young, probably around 10 or 11 I got into trouble and I was trying to explain myself to my Dad..he stopped me and gently but firmly told me to always look someone in the eyes when you are talking to them..have no idea why but that really stuck with me and now I am teaching it to my own children that even when you get into trouble the best form of sincerity is looking someone in the eye while saying you are sorry.

My father never gave me advice. My mothers best advice was to never let a man control me, or tell me that I have to be or act a certain way because I'm a woman.

the best advise my parents gave me is stay in school and do not bring schoolwork home.

My daddy was always a pitfall of advice but my favorite piece was "If the guy is bigger than you slam your purse, etc in his face and go to town". Good advice, Later that year a guy got a text book to the face.

Always be in good company! I've observed how I've unintentionally changed when I've been around people who aren't intrinsically moral or good or noble or whatever they may be. Everyone has faults, but choose your friends wisely, and life will be sooo much easier and more satisfying!

My mother told me that I was smart enough to do anything that I set my mind to.

My dad told me to always tell the truth so that I did not have to remember which version of a story was the right one.

When I was 14 and wanted a job, my mom told me to "enjoy not having to work now, because you'll have to work the rest of your life". I got the job anyway and now I see it was good advice.
