The battery is held down by a plastic wedge, but it isn't tied down by the long pin it used to have. I drive a late model Toyota Corolla. Where can I get a replacement pin on the cheap (w/out going to a dealer and getting ripped)?

Go to a hardware store and buy a piece of 1/4 inch threaded rod that's long enough to reach down to the battery tray from the top bracket...allow an inch more on top and bottom...you'll have to bend a j-hook into the end on the bottom and get a wing nut and washer also for the top....make sure it doesn't stick up too high to hit the hood when you close it. Probably run a few dollars.

My car battery lost it's long pin (which a hold-down strap would attach to). Any replacement ideas?

I bet pepboys would have something like that. Maybe Napa. It is a very common piece. I would just call the dealer. Believe it or not they don't rip you off too bad for small parts like that. I've gotten stuff like that for free from a dealer just because they have old ones sitting around.

Local auto stores have these replacements in stock. Don't go without it....battery can move during acceleration and braking and short out causing fire or explosion!

Don't let the battery bounce around. Either try a salvage yard, or a dealer. The price may not be as much as you figured.

good luck.

Maybe some threaded rod, nuts, and washers might help. 10.00 or less at a hardware store.
