The other day I was making instant potatoes and the water/butter/etc over flowed onto the stove.. since then I havne't been able to use any of the burners because they either smoke like crazy or one even flamed up. I tried scrubbing the whole thing down even lifted the stove and did underneath and it still smokes like crazy

what can I do to fix this?

I have to agree with answer one, and with no offense to you, DEEPER cleaning sounds like a neccesary task.

It's obvious WHY the smoke/etc. keeps happening; and IF it's GAS, then it's likely some "Crud" is in there.

It may not strictly be a DIY job however, to remove gas stove hardware. Certainly if it's electric the situation might be the same, but turning off the breaker and cleaning the emement sockets might be a cure. it's also possible, and again, no offense meant, that tater stuff isn't the only thing in this issue.

Pull the lines that bring the gas to the burners and clean them out. More than likely, that crud is igniting in the line and causing all that smoke.
