Keep confident and have a positive mental attitude - somehow you become more photographable when you smile naturally - as if you really mean it. The secret is in the eyes.
Also, if you have to look in the direction of the camera - look at something 3 feet to the left or right of the lens (the thing to avoid is red-eye - this can be removed digitally, but its best not to have it in the first place.
When you get in front of that camera - enjoy the experience.

Before you leave for school tomorrow, look at yourself if front of a harsh light. That's what you'll most likely look like when the camera flash goes off. So if you like how you look in that light, your picture will be fine.
And make sure not to blink!!
