Today it was hot durning the day and i went out to the barn and saw that dasey had foam comming out of her mouth so i gave her some food and water and checked if she was over heated. I was wondering if i need to worry about this or if it is normal. She does have a calf and is about 4 if that info is needed.

Cows do foam at the mouth normally depending on what they were doing.

I wouldn't worry about it unless she goes off her feed and water.

Cow Foaming At Mouth

Is she lethargic? Did she eat okay? What has she been eating? Is there a chance she got into something she shouldn't have? Is she maybe dehydrated? If she is acting sick, you should take her temp. There are a few reasons for foaming, the least of which is over heating. It could be any number of things.

If she is acting normal, and eating, I wouldn't let it worry you too much. Just keep a close eye on her and if she DOES start acting "sick" laying down all day, going off food and drink, then call a vet and have her looked at.

What was she eating? Was she stressed? I know that some ruminants will end up with some "foaming" if they're over-chewing their cud, but I don't know if that happens in cattle.

I'd say keep an eye on her and if she seems to start getting listless then call the vet. But if she seems interested in feed and water it may be nothing.

Call the vet. Mad cow disease starts out like that. If the cow got ahold of loco weed it will do that too. In either case the cow will begin to charge at things and get real mean and it will stand around trembling. Then it will lay down and die. Get the vet before it gets too bad.

It sounds like you just happened to see her when she was chewing her cud. This often looks like foaming at the mouth but is closer to drool.

probably means that she's been eating some clover and what just chewing her cud. Alsaki (I think that's misspelled) clover can cause excessive salavation. I'm sure that's all it is.
If you still are worried just keep an eye on her for a few minutes and see if she's uncomfortable.

She might have eaten a toxic plant. Just keep your eye on her. If she continues to display her sign, call your vet, and ask for their advice. I truly have strong affection for cattle, especially herfords, and enjoy the way they smell. Go, good luck.
