They could be held liable... until your 18th birthday. Now it is your responsibility. If you don't pay, they will turn it over to a collections agency, and your credit rating will suffer.
That means no student loans, no credit cards, no financing a house or car....

You were behind the wheel , you are at fault , welcome to grown up world junior..
Do not get hooked on this whole 18 years old thing , at 16 in driving laws your recklessness can have you tried as an adult , which gets your parents off the hook , and gives you a debt ...welcome to this little thing called Life as a grown up ..
Besides if you was driving like a responsible driver should , you would have had better control of the car , without losing control of it ....I guess mom ,and dad was right , you get out acting stupid , it will come back and bite you in the @ss ....see they were right ....
Tell the judge you want mommy ,and daddy to pay it because you was 17 and two weeks from being 18 at the time of the wreck ..Let me know what the judge tells you ...
Do not use the word accident , it was a wreck , because car wrecks , and collisions are caused by stupidity , which does not qualify as an accident ..
You talk about getting out the gate , ..Man if you do not even have an extra 1053.00 laying around , how far out the gate are you planning on going , to the end of mom,and dads drive way

The fact that it happened before your 18th birthday does not make it someone elses responsibility, it is yours. Before you turn 18 the utility could have sued your parents for the damage since they could not sue you. However your parents could turn around and sue you on your 18th birthday. Now that you are over 18 the utility can sue you.
However, if you had insurance (as is required by law) turn over the bill to your insurance company.

No, minors are liable for their own tortious acts (civil wrongs). You cannot pass the buck to Mommy and Daddy. Your parents are awesome for holding you accountable.
http://www.gbbslaw.com/article.jsp?practArea=29&articleIndex=1 contains an article discussing Kansas law on this subject.

How rude of you to think that you can leave your debt at your parents feet????? What an ungrateful child!!! If you hit it, you should pay for it, it's not like you were a baby. Unless something is wrong with you like mental retardation, you should pay for your own mistakes no matter what the law says.

Legally they are responsible for your actions until you turn 18.
Morally I think that if I were your parent I would pay the bill and then ask you to move your sorry *** out of my house and call your mother from time to time because she gets concerned about you.

Do you have a license? Then YOU are responsible, period. Or you could talk to a lawyer to try to get you out of it (but you would still have to pay them). Same thing would happen if YOU were driving drunk, YOU would have to face those consequences, not your parents (unless they bought the alcohol for you)

i totally agree with Zestorer, you are an adult so take responsiblity for your own actions. That should be from any age and not just from your 18th birthday!
£1,053 is not that big a deal! Grow up!
