My baby has little bumps on her body. it started on her 4head then went to her cheeks, neck, back, arms and legs the doc said Eczema isn't contagious like a cold, but most people with eczema have family members with the condition. Researchers think it's inherited or passed through the genes. both my husband and myself dont have any family member with this problem. so my question is can a baby have eczema if it does not run in the family?

It is not always inherited. That being said have you thought about her diet? My daughter had a rash type thing on her cheeks for 6 months and the dr kept saying eczema. I began a food journal and figured out it worsened after eating certain foods (instant mashed potatoes and instant white rice) so once I cut those out and it cleared up. I gradually gave her small amounts after a few months and she has been fine ever since.
So if it does not clear up with the treatment suggested, look at her diet and soaps she uses.

I have eczema and no one else in my family does. It's not that big of a problem, I just have to use moisturizers and avoid dry heat.

Yes! My sister had eczema as a baby, and I didn't and neither did mom or dad. She now has it again at 13 and still no one has it.

My son has the same thing, the first doctor i took him to said he had excema but like you, it doesnt run in our family. I took him to another doctor who said it was seborrheaic (sp?) dermatitis, which is pretty much excema but it doesnt last forever, in most children it goes away before they turn 1. My sons has cleared up ALOT, his doctor gave him a prescription for 5% cortisone cream. You may want to take him to another doctor, I put 1% cortison cream on him first and it didnt work. Check it out!!

Yes, people have had it and I have heard of treatment. Its perfectly fine. It may go away and reappear but its not always genetic, but generally it is.
