They are an ally to Russia. They want a friendly border. They have the contracts to build the nuclear plants. They have oil. He wants to support a regime that is anti-American to provide a balance of power in the region.

Putin's purpose was to ensure the Iranians of their support with regards to the building of Iran's first nucleaur reactor. The benefit for the Russian's and Putin was that they get a lot of their oil and energy from Iran. In addition Russia is one of the 5 permanent members of the Security Council which is about to meet to decide whether to access more sanctions on Iran. So far Russia and China are against it.

Iran sells oil to Japan and was paid in US dollars. Iran has asked for Japanese yen in the future. The dollar is going down in value. President Putin has made it clear that the dollar is virtually worthless and has no assets to back it. The rouble has oil, gold, silver and a massive reserve of natural gas to back the currency. Putin wants the rouble to become the worlds reserve currency. The cold war has ended - now watch out for economic wars. The world is worried about global warming - in the West we see global cooling of the economic kind. I expect Iran will start ditching the mighty greenback and stocking up on roubles.

Enhance his political standing at home. He is in trouble with the Russian people. Iran is a pawn in his game. And to stupid to know it.

he went to call a spade, a spade. what better place to call it than Iran, China or venezuela? his purpose was to tell the world soviet union mayh be dead but the traits that drive US crazy and nuts.
