Who's a better manger Terry Francona or Bobby Cox?

Francona has done a nice job, but he also had the benefit of taking over a team with a $150 million payroll and a lineup of stars. Cox has spent the past 15 years winning with an ever-changing lineup in Atlanta, while being helped by an excellent stable of pitchers.

If Francona can manage for another decade and continue to post year after year of playoff appearances, then he might have a shot. As it is, though, Cox wins this one hands-down.

Bobby Cox was managing while Terry Francona was still playing. Cox has helmed winning Braves teams since the early 90s; Francona managed the Phillies to four losing seasons and only inherited a winning Red Sox team in 2004 with Varitek, Martinez et al. This is Francona's EIGHTH managerial season while it was Cox's 25th. Cox has 2,255 wins, Francona has only 659.

Bobby Cox is better by a long shot.

Well Bobby is older so I'd have to say Bobby Cox. Bobby Cox has had a tremendous managing career, and I predict he keeps at it.

Terry Francona is reaching 50 and still has a good 10-20 years left, so he could turn out to be a true legend.
