Yes I am, but I am an older respondent (56) and I remember it so clearly from my childhood when my mother made it out of leftovers because sometimes there wasn't anything else! Nowadays, I think bubble and squeak is one of those dishes that celebrity TV chefs make, but they add lots of other things to it, which robs it of its simplicity.
My wife and I used to make it for our 4 children when they were little (we didn't have much money either) and they loved it, but I suppose it will soon be yet another thing of the past.
My beloved grandmother (dead now) taught me to cook, but she would just say 'Well, take some flour ...' etc. She knew. Now all the recipe books have very precise amounts.
I really wish that we could go back in time. People were not obese. Now it's a big problem.

Yes but I do it in the oven rather than on the hob.
Boil (I steam) some potatoes and cabbage. Fry some minced meat and tomatoes (I use chopped tinned), fry out most of the moisture. Break (not mash) togather the potatoes, cabbage, minced meat into an oiled baking tray or dish. flatten the top with a wood spoon and spread oil over the surface. Bake on Gas Mk 7 till you get a crispy top Serve in slices with brown sauce (HP, a must !)

Always thought of it as the best part of Sunday lunch, a reason for getting up on Monday and to really top it off, mix some sprouts in as well.
Well fried with burnt bits and HP sauce.
Just don`t get too close on Tuesday.

Oh yes, with a fried egg on top. My mother made lovely bubble and squeak - I miss it, can't do it the way she did.

It is absolutely delicious! I like to cook it for a long time, turning it over and over so that you get crispy bits all the way through. I have to cook potatoes and greens ,cabbage or sprouts - or all three! - to make it, so it's not just when there's left-overs in my house! Best served with bacon, egg, sausage and mushrooms, and seasoned with pepper. Mmmmmm.......
