I was just wondering at what week pregnant your doctor starts to examine 'down there'. Thanks!

Doctors can differ on when they start checking for cervical dilation and effacement. This is also dependent on the state of the pregnancy; high risk pregnancies may have earlier and frequent cervical checks, whereas normal pregnancies have later and fewer checks.

I am 36 weeks and 1 day and just had my first "down there" appointment plus swab for Group B Step. This was my first time in the stirrups since my first appointment to confirm my pregnancy at 7 weeks.

Congratulations and best of luck to you.

They do a female exam once you test positive for pregnancy, and maybe another if there is a problem. My doctors always start examining "down there" for dilation, etc, at about 36 weeks.

I had an exam at my first appointment, around 12 weeks. I haven't had another one since, and I am 25 weeks. I think that around 34 weeks they need to get a swap from there to test for Group B Strep and then they might start checking for dilation and effacement at 36 weeks or so. But, I don't think checking you late in pregnancy like that is necessarily routine. My doctors say "if you want to or we need to" ... unless you're overdue.

Im from the uk and i wasnt touched "down there" until i was induced for my 1st baby at 38wks.
2nd pregnancy i had a membrane sweep at approx 39wks and went into labour 40+1
3rd pregnancy i was rushed in by ambulance at 39wks bleeding heavily, they done a scan and an internal, broke my waters and i had him 2 hours later.
4th baby nothin until i asked for my waters to be broken during labour and baby was born seconds later!
I dont think there should be any need to be checked "down there" unless its to be induced or during labour.

I didn't have any checks 'down there' until I went in to deliver. I live in the Uk and my baby was a couple of weeks early so I missed my final hosp appointment so whther they would have done a check then I'm not sure!?!

i asked my dr that today since im 38 weeks tomorrow and havent been checked yet. he told me that unless i was having contractions which im not, they dont check until next week when ill be almost 39 weeks. he said if theres no reason to it can introduce alot of bacteria into the uterus and cause spotting.
