My son is on similac isomil advanced, and is very constipated. His poop is very hard, and he is uncomfortable getting it out. I've been giving him gripe water, but thats hasn't work. I called the doc. and he told me to switch his formula to enfamil. I dont really feel comfortable switching to that, so does anyone have any suggestions?

you don't say why you don't feel comfortable switching formula, but that is what the child needs. Obviously the current formula is causing the issue. If you don't like Enfamil, then find one you do like, make sure it doesn't have added iron as that is usually the culprit in constipation for babies.
You can also give him watered juices like half prune juice half water and that will help to get him moving. But to soften the stool, he needs a different formula.

Switch Formula. When our son was an infant we had to switch formulas about 5 times, eventually landing on a $15/can formula.. Similac is cheap (emfamil is a step up.)

Better a loose stool then a fuzzy baby.

When my daughter @ three months old was constipated ( also on Similac isomil Advanced) my doctor recomended prune juice mixed with water 3oz water to 1 or 1 and 1/2oz prune juice it def. WORKED! But if your baby keeps getting constipated you may need to switch the formula. GOOD LUCK!! I hope he feels better :)

If gripe water is not helping much then you MUST switch the formula ... he is not taking is well and dont continue that.

It will be hard to change initially ... but he will be more happy taking it out. Hope this helps.

Try a shot of prune juice in his bottle first and give it 3 days to work. If that doesn't work, try maybe a half teaspoon of mineral oil, we used Kondremul. If the half doesn't work, try a teaspoon all the way up to a tablespoon. (I started with a teaspoon, I think, and it was way too powerful for my son who then had diarrhea for a few weeks.) Good luck!

I had the same problem with my son for the longest time. The doctor told me to put 1 teaspoon of Caro syrup in a bottle of water and let him drink. The high sugar content will help loosen him without hurting him like what would happen with too much juice. I wish you the best and good luck.

Any juice that you feel comforable using. I have a 3 month old also and I ad 1 part water to 3 parts juice. Gets the poop flowing every time.

Dip a teaspoon in molasses and let what sticks to it, mix with the formula, it will turn chocolate looking, but definately does the trick. Both of my kids started their day off with a molasses bottle and that was all that was needed.

Well,my child was born at 26 weeks and the formula played a major role as to how his movements came.We tried different formulas until we finally found one that worked.Similac soy"it comes in a maroon container"sold at most cvs and h-e-b stores.try that.it worked really well and if the constipation continues then try giving him/her more water or pedialite.I hope this helps you.good luck
