In some cases, yes. Rock from the eighties and nineties is excellent, but i like a lot of modern stuff too. As for pop, the nineties takes the cake! You just can't beat boy bands like Backstreet Boys and 'Nsync. Rap (I've always hated it, but here's my input anyway) I think it used to be about rhyming and having a good beat but still getting a point across. Nowadays, songs like "Crank Dat Soulja Boy" is giving all rap, even the early stuff that had meaning, a bad name. Soulja Boy is a filthy thug, just like all the other modern day rappers. (well, not ALL, but the majority.) Great question!
Have a star.

Well, the 90s music was marketable because record companies thrived off of talented artists for profit, because that's what people wanted . As time progressed however, the 2000-era ushered in more pop-oriented music which rose sharply in popularity, putting the "real" music to the backburner and to make a new home in the indie world.

anything from the 50s to the end of the 90s was good music, most of today's music is garbage, you have nothing but ring-tone singers, one hit wonders, same subjects. etc

I feel it is so, back in the day when people would walk down the streets listening to Vanilla Ice and the soundtrack to Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Those were the days.
