I bought sweater because I thought it was nice but now I don't think it is. I've only worn it a couple of times and I can't return it to the store. It's gray with painted flowers at the back. What can I do to make it better? I don't want to sew anything on because the stitches will go through the other side. I'm willing to bleach if it'll help. I can also iron on patches. What do you suggest?

Why all this trouble when I can always buy a new one? I have fun going through this type of trouble. ..So thank you, if you can help.

patches would be a nice idea, maybe some pins
or just find an outfit that matches very very well with the sweater

A shawl/scarf that will pick up one of the minor colours in the flowers, pinned with something that has most of the flower colours in it. Wear it with pants or a skirt that is the same colour as the shawl.
I understand what you mean about having fun going to this type of trouble...

If you want a big project, un-do all of the seams and frog (un-ravel) the pieces and re-knit into something you do like.

If it's too fine to re-knit by hand, use 3 or more strands together. Use the mixed-color stuff from the back for border or fringe or waistband or straps and/or pocket flaps.

You could switch out the buttons for some prettier ones. Make some stripes at the cuff and collar and along the bottom, by threading some ribbon in and out.

Why not just give it to good will/salvation army, so someone else can put it to use that way u get rid of something ugly by doing something nice. It seems like a win/win situation! lol

good luck! I'm not a sewer myself...

How about dyeing it in dark color i.e. black or navy blue to subdue the painted flowers (I'm guessing this is what you don't like about it?).

Depends on you. Do something that matches you're eyes or your hair. Pin stuff in so you would look more razzed.
