There's a chef at the tearoom where I work. He's fat, and he makes the nicest lentil soup i've ever had.Do you think it would be funny to say this to him: Your soup looks beautiful, just like you?

no, but you should say something nice to him. chefs always like to hear when people like their food. trust me I know

If you do that, I hope he pours a big pot of that lentil soup over your head. What do you do at the tearoom? Cashier?

lol, that sounds okay. i don't know if it would be appropriate though, he might think you're commenting on his weight. i'd just say "your soup looks beautiful," and leave it at that.
