It has been years since I've read this book but it has was always one been one of my favorites.
Twins have a strong connection to one another. They sometimes develop a private "twin" language that ony they understand. Golding demonstrates this connection in the characters of Sam and Eric, who do everything in tandem with one another. They have each other for support, something none of the other characters in the book really have.
I have inserted some references for websites.
"Sam and Eric are two young twins who always travel and do everything together. Without each other, they are incapable of very much. They represent reliance and unity, and because of this become like one person referred to as Samneric. ... The loss of civilization led them to lose any real sense of loyalty to others."
"A pair of twins closely allied with Ralph. Sam and Eric are always together, and the other boys often treat them as a single entity, calling them “Samneric.” The easily excitable Sam and Eric are part of the group known as the “bigguns.” At the end of the novel, they fall victim to Jack’s manipulation and coercion."
Re-read each section of the book that references Sam and Eric and watch for the changes in their behavior.
Good Luck!

Hmm, I haven't read that book in ages upon ages but my guess would be that Sam and Eric act as a single defining unit for the twins. It's hinting at the fact that the twins are practically inseparable. They're identical in more ways than one - their behavior, mannerisms, perhaps even speech (I don' t know if the way they talk sets them apart from the other characters; I really can't remember.) constitute samneric.

I havent't read that book since like 8th grade(which ws 10 years ago), but my guess would be that their behaviors are very similar and calling them samneric would indicate that they act as one. The readers would most likely see them as one character not two characters with unique personalities. For the examples just find something in the book where they do the same thing or act the same way or maybe one just follows what the other one does. Hope this helps.

It's a long time since I read it and I don't remember them that well so I'm guessing.
Identical twins are often perceived as one. So many people find it hard to differentiate that their own names become irrelevant (which must be very harsh if you're a twin). It doesn't matter which is which. And so their 2 names become one name.
I can't help much with their behaviour but look for examples where they behave the same or know what the other is thinking.

Ask yourself if there are examples in the book of them saying the same thing at the same time or doing the same thing at the same time. It is all about viewing them as one person instead of two.

They are interchangeable characters, neither if them has their own clearly defined character. They never act independently, always together, so they might as well be one person - hence giving them one name that blends the two.

I think it has something to do with loss of individual identity which leads to depersonification.
