How can I do vibrato? I feel like I'm the only person in my orchestra that doesn't know how..

If you can explain it, please do..if there's any site to give me visual explanation, thanks.

Is there certain notes that works best with vibrato or does it doesn't matter?

Umm, one more thing. What is the difference between a violin and a viola? I know they sound a bit different, but they look like the same size. Why is it different sounding?

Thank you!!

To do vibrato on a string instrument, you simply move your hand back and forth very rapidly, being sure the finger does not lift off of the string.

Here's a visual:

And the difference between a viola and a violin is that a viola is a lower pitch. They actually are larger than violins.

Hope this helps!

I'm a trumpet and guitar player but, surprisingly, the technique is very similar.

With you finger holding down the note, move your hand toward you and away from you rapidly. Not far, and don't let the finger slide. The pad of your finger should roll slightly, which will change the pitch slightly.

That's how you do a"soft" vibrato on guitar, and you move your hand essentially the same way on trumpet, although the effect is created in a different way.

Hard vibrato on guitar is achieved by twisting your wrist and moving the finger up and down while holding the string. In this case, the string actually moves, and the effect is much more pronounced. I don't think this will be pleasant on a violin, but it probalby would work. The pitch changes much more radically this way.

Vibrato can be obtained in different ways. Shaking the instrument Placing your finger on a string and wiggling it. A viola is bigger than a violin. the neck is thicker and so is it's body. a viola has more of an alot sounding instrument. In my opinion a warmer sounding instrument than the Violin after that you get into Cello and so on. Happy music making!
