It's a like just like pulling out works it a lie. Sperm don't just live a few seconds inside you after being squirted. They can live 3-5 days inside swimming around trying to find your egg.

Well, every woman has a period of the month where she's not ovulating. The problem is, how do you know for absolute certain what week that is, especially considering that your body reserves the right to change that week from month to month. So, while technically the rythym method CAN work, it's not at all a good way to avoid pregnancy. It tends to be something wives use when they don't really want to get pregnant, but it also wouldn't be the end of the world if they did. If you really want to be baby free, go another route.

No. Although the chances of getting pregnant are less at some times in the cycle, the ovaries can release an egg at any time, even during your period, and you can get pregnant. Besides unless you're in a monogamous lifetime relationship with one person, you should ALWAYS use a condom. There are many sexually transmitted diseases, including HPV which can lurk undetected for years and cause ovarian cancer, so you would never be able to have children. In fact condoms don't always stop HPV and other std's like herpes, so you need to be careful and don't have too many partners.

So much for health classes.
Yes there is a period of time during the month when you are most likely not to get pregnant. Of course there is always a potential which is true for anyone having sex regardless of what you do.
It's called NFP (Natural Family Planning) and it's not the rhythm method' it's called the Sympto-thermal method. By taking your temperature you can chart the times of the month when you are most susceptible and least susceptible. Check out this website: http://ccli.org/nfp
I know tons of people that use this successfully as they do not want to accept the negative health risks and abortive rates of birth control.

What you describe is a method of birth control called the Rhythm Method, meaning the woman gets in touch with and studies her body's rhythms to predict ovulation. She then abstains from intercourse during times she's likely to be fertile.
It is anything but foolproof, and generally only used by married ladies for whom a pregnancy would not be grievously unwelcome, who are certain of their partner's fidelity. Particularly as there is no protection against sexually transmitted diseases (or anything else, for that matter).
This explanation is for educational purposes only. This method is only recommended for ladies as described above. Please don't be foolish. It's truly russian roulette for everyone else.

yes....but it isn't extremely reliable.
A woman can't get pregnant unless she has ovulated...that is, her ovaries have released an egg. As I recall (someone correct me if I am wrong), this generally happens roughly 14 days after the start of her last period.
However, this ovulation time is not guaranteed. Also keep in mind that sperm can live in your body for several days as they swim upstream in search of an egg. So if the woman ovulates early, and/or the sperm have a long life span, the time you thought would be "safe" can result in pregnancy.

Absolutely not! A woman is subject to pregnancy 24/7 - 365!
You're really taking a chance by playing the odds on this one!

Sure, but the failure rate (that is, the incidence of unintended pregnancy) is rather high if you use this rhythm method. ANd why would one have unprotected sex in this day and age anyway. Hello? HIV, Herpes, HPV anyone?
I've said it before, even if you're on the pill, use a condom unless you have the paperwork on your partner's STD history in your hand!
