the thing is only a couple years old. When you press the button nothing happens. It is an electric dryer, does anyone know what it could be? Is there a fuse that is out inside the dryer, could it be the electrical outlet? How can the light be on but the dryer does not work? it does not spin or anything.

It is very possible that it is just the door switch. Open the door and see if you can find where the switch is and push it in. The light should turn off whenn pushed in. If the door switch is ok, you probably have a bad thermal fuse. Very rarely does the start switch go bad. Need to know more about the dryer. Age, Brand, etc. Feel free to contact me with your appliance problems.

You probably just have a bad on/off switch. But it's possible that since it's an electric dryer, your heating element has burned out and there is a safety switch which is keeping it from turning on. Now days appliances don't last as long, unless you know how to repair them yourself! Sometimes also, there is a in line fuse in the wiring. Which means that your dryer might have gotten too hot, which also means you have problems. Always look for the obvious, when checking for problems! If you want to check it out yourself by looking, just make sure you unplug your dryer before you take the back off. You might be able to spot the problem!

First look at the fuses or breakers in the branch circuit panel. The dryer uses 220, but the lamp is on 110. The overcurrent device for the other side of the circuit might have tripped.

In an electric dryer, the two 120-volt lines that make up the 240-volts total that go to it are routed to separate circuits within the dryer. If the light is on one circuit and the motor on another, you will get the symptoms you describe. Also, if one of the two 120-volt lines is not energized, you will not get the 240 volts to the heater element.

A 240-volt breaker is usually two 120-volt breakers in tandem. If one of the two trips, you lose one 120-volt circuit. Check the electrical panel that supplies the laundry room. Also, keep in mind that there may be a 240-volt breaker on the main electrical panel that feeds a sub-panel in the laundry room. And, it may be one of the sub-panel breakers that tripped.

the problem is the fuse see the picture below:
those 2 wires going to that white thingie need to make contact,if that fuse is open it will not run. Be sure to get the lint out of the machine and replace the fuse before trying to run it again.unplug the dryer and remove the rear cover. you will see it.If it is a kenmore whirlpool.other dryers will run with the fuse blown but this dude will not run with a fuse blown.

If your dryer is only a couple years old, check to see if it is still on warranty. If so, then call the repair department and get them to fix your dryer. It's not normal for dryers to break so quickly.
