Wash your hands in cold soapy water, since hot water tends to seal in the odor. Rub your hands with either a cut lemon, baking soda or table salt, then wash them again with cold soapy water.Rubbing your hands over a stainless steel bowl or utensil under cold running water or rubbing your hands on the stainless steel faucet of the sink will also help. Washing dishes in a lemon-scented dish soap and warm water also helps to remove unpleasant odors from hands...

Eat parsley to get rid of garlic breath. They sell this little garlic smell remover thing at the kitchen stores that really works to get the garlic smell off of your skin. But, some people swear by using a half of the juice of a lemon, too.

I have seen deodorizing bars of stainless steel (about the size of a partly-used bar of soap) in places like Sonoma-Williams that are supposed to work well at getting rid of organic odors. There's something about the molecular structure of stainless steel that causes it to react with and neutralize the molecules that cause organic odors.

Otherwise, I would suggest wearing rubber gloves when handling garlic. I do all the time when handling garlic, onions, or hot peppers. It's a little cumbersome at first. But, you get used to it.

For garlic breath, you can take little gel caps full of parsley oil (I forgot what they call the product). I used to hold the gel cap in my mouth until the outer shell melted and then swish the parsley oil around my mouth. It worked pretty well. Maybe you could use that oil on your hands as well.

A squeeze of lemon juice does the trick to eliminate the odor of garlic on your hands. Lemon zest works even better. That is the rind of a lemon. I use this and it works great. Also you might like to try rubbing your hands with olive oil that also helps remove the oily residue of garlic from your fingers. Fighting oil with oils.

I cook a lot. A friend bought me a gadget which you rub your hands on under cold water. It TOTALLY removed onion, garlic, fish smells. Turns out it's the same stuff most utensils are made of (Stainless steel). SO, for a cheap, 'certainly to have at home' version, get out a large spoon, turn on the cold water and rub your fingers on the spoon under the water. Voila` Good luck and enjoy!

To rid your breath: flossing and brushing your teeth (and tongue) is the best way to remove any strong taste or odor.

For skin: rub your skin with some aluminum foil. For some odd reason, the metal will react and neutralize the odor of onion and garlic off your skin!

I use garlic a lot in the dishes that I make, and usually use a lime or lemon and rub on my hands and throw down the garbage disposal. The citrus smell takes away the garlic and also cleanses your disposal (I know you didn't ask about the disposal, just adding that info). It works pretty good for me.

lemon juice works best. try juicing a lemon and cutting it in hafl, then squeeze the juice into your hands and rub it in as if you were washing your hands. really helps for onion and fish smells too.
