She can wear tampons on the first day of her very first period if she wants to and is comfortable with them.

Mine started at age 11 and I started using tampons around that time as well.

She is able to use tampons. But I think you are probably the best judge. Is she mature enough to handle the responsability that is involved with tampon use? And most important of all... If she does use them, make sure she is educated on Toxic Shock Syndrom!!! It is sooo important and young girls die all the time from not being aware. I knew a girl personally. She forgot to take one out, put another in and lost the first inside. She was too embarassed to tell and didn't know about TSS. She went to the doc with flu symtoms and got very sick. Her mother found her gone in her bed the next morning. She was only 15. Make sure she is capable of handling the responsability of it. I use tampons. I don't have anything against them. But they are dangerous if you don't know the dangers of TSS. Use the right obsorbancy according to the flow. Change them reguraly. And seek medical help if needed, never be imbarassed. You can even let her know there is a hotline number on the box if she has questions. Good luck!

If she is already using them with no problems, I guess it's ok. Most girls her age at least start out with pads and then switch over at some point when they get the nerve to figure it out (usually from peer pressure--all the other girls are using them.) My daughter, 14, hasn't made the transition yet but she is very modest and very independent and not about to do something she finds gross just because the other girls are.
(Considering other things like sex, I as a mom find this somewhat reassuring.)

I know my mom never used tampons and she thought I was horrible when I switched--but then she thought everything was nasty and horrible!

If you are concerned, call and ask to speak to the nurse for your ob/gyn or family practice doc. They can give you the medical pros and cons, and I doubt they would charge you anything for the quick phone consult.

By the way, I admire you for looking after your sister. I know at your age it can't be easy to try to parent a teen (especially a sibling who may not have the proper respect for you)
Best wishes to you both!

When my daughter got her period I let her decide what she wanted to use. She was a late bloomer & all of her friend had already gotten theirs. Plus, I'm very open with my kids about puberty etc.. so she was very comfortable with the entire thing. She started out using pads but feels more comfortable with tampons because she's very active & into sports. When we go to the store I let her pick what she wants to use I just make sure shes buying regular or junior absorbency.

I'd go with pads. Tampons might be overly intimidating to a girl starting her period. Pads will feel bulky but let her know that no one can tell she's wearing one.. I know that was my concern when I started my period!

Good luck!

Do you nonetheless have a female pal? Or any female it truly is on the fringe of you that would desire to describe those issues on your sister? because of the fact i'm confident which you're attempting your toughest to make her comfortable, yet she truly desires a female to talk this along with her because of the fact it truly is an exceedingly awkward situation for a youthful female. And in case you haven't any longer have been given any women human beings that she will confer with, do exactly slightly diagnosis and do your perfect. or you may desire to constantly take her to a doctor so as that they are able to describe it. solid success although!

My daughter is just got hers not to long ago at 11 and i wanted her to wear pads, but she plays softball, basketball, track, cheerleading... and insisted that she had to wear tampons , so i got her the tampax sport, they are pretty tiny and she does really well with these.. so i say let her try it , she will tell you if it uncomfortable..

Pads definitely - Always are the best.
Tampons save for later on and special occasions - they are not that good for virgins or for everyday use.
