Public humiliation has never acted as a deterrent before -- in fact, it just tends to make them feel more as outsiders, and have less interest in integrating back into society.....

But if you think it'll help -- get your state to pass such a law, as part of state sentencing for certain crimes -- and see if it works.

If you're a shameless criminal, public humiliation is not a problem.
Humiliation hurts decent people, indecent people likes to be recognized as indecent.
I like the idea of community duties as a way to repay for the damage done and it's more affordable than giving them "paid vacations".

Great idea but one draw back...the do-gooders will never allow such barbaric behaviour on the poor harmless criminals.
You seem to forget that crims have more rights than law abiding citizens.
