just for yourself, or eat whatever is handy? Eating what you want when you want it is part of the fun of being single, as is not eating if you just don't feel like it. Do you "insist" on having a full dinner each evening if you're all by yourself, or just grab a snack?

Try too., The last three months I am so tired at the end of the day, I have been buying microwave meals! Naughty me. I should know better!

Hey, Lady G, I try to eat something healthy around 5-6 pm, unless I have eaten a big lunch. I rarely do either, though. So, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich tides me over just fine.

And Yes, that is the part I enjoy about being single. No more cooking for four children and a husband. The problem is I have forgotten how to cook. Cooking for one is difficult, and I have a place around the corner where I can get a burger if I am really hungry.

I refuse to cook a full meal because it will go to waste. I am not fond of leftovers.

A snack to me, sometimes, is a meal. A half of a sandwich that I purchased earlier in the day, the remainder of which I eat for supper works great.

Have a lovely evening, m'lady.

God Bless.

One of the joys of being single is eating what you want when you want.

That being said, I abhor "fast-food" places like McD's and such. While eating out can be fun and I like to enjoy a nice restaurant, I much prefer the food I cook myself.

I use very little processed foods and cook almost everything from scratch. I love to cook and bake.

When I prepare a nice meal, it has all the trimmings....and there is usally enough left over for another night.

I'd rather have a cold meatloaf sandwich than a quarter pounder with cheese...

Sometimes, I just want a huge bowl of Cheerios or oatmeal....other times a glorious peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwich and a huge glass of milk.

I always have a freezer full of home made soups, chowders and spaghetti sauce...I LOVE home made soup in the winter time.

At least once a week, I fry up a mess of chicken because it is one of my favorite meals. I can eat on that for days.

I don't have and never have had a microwave oven. What a disgusting meal that comes from that thing. I suppose it would be good for heating up leftovers - but it takes up too much valuable counter space.... I need lots of room to make gnocchi for the freezer.

I usually eat what ever is handy. I like to cook a big meal now and then so that I can have leftovers for three or four days. Some nights it's a big nice dinner, sometimes oatmeal and toast. French toast and bacon is a fine dinner too. Top Ramen will do in a pinch or a cold sandwich. I'm not picky.

As a diabetic I need to eat my 3 meals a day and occasionally have snacks. I like to cook so I don't mind preparing a full meal. Tonight I had spaghetti, with marinara sauce ( campbell's tomato soup with basil and oregano makes two servings of sauce). I'll have a fruit cup in a bit .

Tomorrow using the left over soup/sauce I'll make pork with melted cheese in tomato sauce and do some veggie fusili noodles with and have a salad for lunch as I'm going out in the evening. Might just have a light supper grilled cheese or egg sandwhich , cause I know there'll be goodies where I am going.

Even though I am married like you Lady G I don't prepare supper each night. Hubby and I were single long enough we can eat light or junk out occasionally. When the 2 adult kids are here with the grandkids (usually) I thaw a meat and let them fight it out over who cooks. I expect when it is just the two of us I will cook 3-4 times a week. Nothing is more irritating than cooking a good meal and no ones has an appetite.
I loved the new potatoes and green onions idea though.

Sometimes it is cereal for dinner, or eggs, I do cook a couple of times a week, but I always have leftovers so there is plenty for the next day or for the pets. as a snack. Single people eat in bowls, I found out! What a great invention! My son told me about that when he went away to college, I thought he was joking, but he wasn't! He also told me about different mac n' cheese products and which ones were better and which ones were flourescent orange and do not eat under any circumstances..

Hubby and I love our veggies and eat them almost every day and thank goodness we have a veggie steamer. Push a button and when they're done, the button dings. What could be easier.
But a full meal? no.
For us a full meal can be a baked potato and salad. It can be taco salad, it can be a single hamburger, it can be stir fried noodles and tomatoes/cott cheese on the side. We try to keep meats to a minimum because they're so gassy so we actually like the lighter meals better anyway.
Still, there's nothing in the world better than a hot bowl of chili or homemade soup on a cold winter day. m-m-m-m-m

No, don t eat a full dinner at night for health reasons. Sometimes feel eating just a soup or a sandwich with a cup of tea. Icecream before sleeping. Snacks only.

I have multiple responses to this really great question!

I live alone and it took me years after my last child left home in '99 to learn how to cook for just me...and even now some things I can't just manage without cooking for a bunch ..like my sauerkraut and sausage and rib dish; or turkey tettrazinni...or chili...LOL

But yes, I cook 5 nights out of 7 usually. I like to eat. I am diabetic [type II] so I have to watch my diet and luckily I did not have to alter too much as I love veggies and fruits and don't like fried foods. What I did have to alter was dairy products. I am a seafood and fish lover so that is good too!

On the days I don't cook, I either eat leftovers [always make a good pot of veggie soup and have it on hand] or I stop at one of my fav restaurants and order their repast...usually Italian or Asian.

I rarely snack, so to speak..unless you call a salad and some shrimp snacking.

For so many years I had to cook for my kids and their tastes and got overweight...lost the weight gained about 5 yrs ago - got fairly fit and now relish good cooking. I have learned how to cook my formerly cholesterol or fat laden dishes without all the bad stuff and it CAN taste good!

My cooking has rubbed off on some of my friends faced with the need to eat 'better' and my kids who are all now over 37...My grands seemed to come out of the hatch with good eating habits and one is a vegetarian and the other only eats lean chicken and mostly veggies.

Eating is a joy of mine so I have relished learning how to do right with whole lotsa taste!

Thanks for this special question!

When alone, I am guilty of eating very badly, rarely, and only to do what is necessary. It is cheaper to eat out at a diner than to prepare a meal. I hate cooking , I hate clean up..so I eat out, usually once a day, if at all. There are far too many days that pass when I do not eat at all...not so good for the body , I know, but ... I just dont' have a lot of heart to eat well when alone. Goldwing
