how can I get the job?

When I go to apply at places and fill out the application..should I just hand it in or ask to speak to somebody? I just filled out an application at this chocholate place, and didn't ask to speak to anyone. In fact, I was really nervous..(my first time doing this for years). I think the lady I even handed it to was the kitchen manager. I need to know how to be more assertive I guess and get the job. Help?

Ask them who you should hand the application to. Practice going up to people to give your application to them so that you get it down how you are going to act.
