Check with your state's child care licensing agency if they give out grants for starting a daycare

In Maryland for example, they have a Family Day Care Provider Grant Program http://marylandpublicschools.org/MSDE/divisions/child_care/grants/ that gives $500 for the following expenses

- Safety supplies
- Staff medical examination fees
- Criminal background check fees
- Small household repairs in approved child care areas
- Approved child care training course fees
- Most expenses related to local water, sewer, fire, and health requirements
- Most program materials and equipment
- Many other costs identified as necessary for completion of the registration process

Don't expect a huge amount but enough to cover a few of your expenses

Government grants to start a business are rarely if ever given to individuals.

Go to http://www.grants.gov for a list of government grants and how you can apply for them. Most of them are for daycare and cost nothing to apply.
