I notice smokers just throw their butts out the window and don't care if they are still lit or not. This is one of the main reasons we have wild fires every year in CA. This costs tax payers millions of dollars. We just passed a law that states we can't drive and talk on a cell phone but no one seems to care about smokers. I don't understand why. Smokers don't care about their lives so why would they be cautious on the road????

I am fully aware of the fact that littering is already illegal; however, smokers are the biggest offenders of this. I've tried calling the CHP when I see this and they told me they can't dispatch anyone for littering.....oh well.

Smoking in general is bad and should be discouraged.

I do see the logic of your argument. Smoking also distracts drivers while they are suppose to be focusing on the road. If you ban cell phones while driving, you should ban smoking while driving.

"Smokers don't care about their lives so why would they be cautious on the road?" - A MAJOR stretch at best and certainly a generalization. Throwing lit cigarettes out the window is already illegal. Here in Washington the fine is over $1000.

california just passed a law making it illegal to smoke in a car if there are children in the car..but there are already laws about littering and if it is a lit cigarrette that you litter with well then they add on another charge of throwing a burining object..in many states the littering fine is tripled if it is a lit cigarette and if it starts a fire then the person faces criminal charges instead of just a fine

No.

But if they are driving with their window open and flicking their ashes out the window they should get a ticket for littering. You know darn well when they are done with that butt they are going to chuck it out the window. Besides the littering, think of the fire hazards they are creating.

And for the fat guy that just oozed behind the wheel of his car who can barely fit in it in the first place orders another double Big Mac combo with an upsized fry and drink comes cruising down the road lets get rid of his sorry #$%^. How about the ditzy blond driving with her knees because her sorry #@!$ got out of bed too late and is now apply her 3rd coat of masacara to cover her weather beaten face, can we get rid of her too? How about all these $#!@$ that like to have a CD hanging from their rear view mirror which completely blinds you on a sunny day? Can we drop them all into a pit and be done with them? These are only a few of the $#@! drivers on the road today. Smokers are just one iota of the problem.

Omigod! If I only had a brain! Tossing lit butts from a vehicle is already a $1000+ fine in CA. Next time you see someone do it, make sure you get the license #, call 911 and report it. I'm sure they'll jump all over it. By the way, most wildfires are caused by lightning strikes.

It is already illegal to litter, who would outlawing smoking in general change anything?

Ah yes...this is the classic lib approach. "Let's create more laws instead of enforcing the ones we already have." Dude, it's called littering....and it's already a punishable offense.

I don't see why anyone needs to smoke while they are driving. Wait until you get home.

Why don't we just outlaw driving. Or maybe, outlaw windows in cars.
