It's a talking point...I have been on my own since the age of 17 when my mother died. I made my own way through college and work my azz off as a Social worker. Working as a social worker, I can assure that being poor knows no political party and being poor does not mean you are lazy, just have had bad things happen in your life.

I have no idea. I love the welfare thing. I'm 33 too. I've been working since I was 11. I started babysitting as soon as I could. I haven't really stopped working. I graduated from college. I'm working now and back in school for an MBA.
I haven't stopped my formal education since I initially graduated from college. My life is mostly work. I used to vote Republican for the tax reason only. I was barely getting by as it was (still struggle but do better) and couldn't afford to pay more. I couldn't get a second job because my first job took so much of my time without OT. I grew up in an upper middle class town. I grew up seeing the hypocrisy and the lies that I believed up until a couple of years ago. In my experience, the liberals and democrats are the most hard working and smart people I know. It's the conservatives that don't want to work and that are lazy. My husband goes to the right a bit and he is lazy. His parents (don't get me started). I don't want to put other people down but it bugs me. I am Dyslexic and because a teacher worked with me, I have managed to overcome to a certain degree. There are things that I cannot help. But I do the best I can. I get frustrated with the lack of opportunities for all people. That is what is ultimately killing us. We need to have less idle people! Conservatives, guess what, you have to work and pay your bills like the rest of us.
I know quite a few rich people that don't pay their bills and think the universe revolves around them. I live in Massachusetts. The rudest people are in Wayland (rich snooty town) and Newton (called Snooten). I doubt very much they are liberals, unless they talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

The "people" are'nt neccessarily lazy, just the Polititians. The people have always(except for the "welfarites")been made up of hard workers with a good work-ethic. The Politicians, who "claim" to be "for the 'working-man", promise the world and only line their pockets with "special interest" money!!! They "talk a good game",but talk is cheap.Did Billy "B-J" Clinton EVER have a REAL job, or just "political BS?"

Conservatives believe in the myth of the self-made man. This actually goes back to the Pilgrims and their Calvinist philosophy. The Pilgrims believed that God chooses certain people to favor, and the sign of God's favor is that he makes them rich and successful. So if someone is rich, it just means that he is wiser, more worthy, more virtuous, favored by God.
Conversely if someone doesn't do well, has bad luck, etc., it's his own fault. Therefore people who are poor are -lazy-, even if they didn't have the same opportunities. People who are rich are -heroes- even if they were just born rich, they deserve whatever privileges they get.
This philosophy, of course, is highly favored by the rich themselves! And since they own all the TV networks movie production companies, publishing houses, etc., you see the theme a lot in mass media, stories of hard work and perseverance always leading to success, and poverty or failure always being a result of laziness or some other defect of character.

I don't know where you got the idea conservatives view democrats this way. There is a difference between conservatives & republicans and liberals & democrats btw - i can't get in to explaining it now - but I can't answer your question either without more information. My bachelor degree is in political science and, i've heard/read a lot of crazy things over the years, but that notion is not one of them.

We dont see all Democrats as lazy. Just the ones that are constantly on welfare. You would be wrong about your guess. The majority of the American work force is Republican, granted its slim majority.

Because Republicans and conservatives don't see the Democrats as being on the "same page" as they.
Meaning: "Free handouts for being a GOP supporter and/or government loyalist."
That way, you don't have to WORK for a living. You just have to be a mindless stooge for the party.

I know what you mean. There are more democrat blue collar workers than republican, I'll bet. I think it has to do with a lot of rhetoric spewed by the politicians. I believe the republicans have a lot more money and can buy better advertising which promote these fallacies.
