Horses have been found to have very varied and inconsistent trends in their past evolution. they varied greatly in size and other aspects, which would question whether or not their evolutionary trends were continuous and progressive.

Truthfully, evolution does not mean progression; it means change, actually "descent with modification." Horses DID NOT evolve in a steady line from small to large, four toes to one, browsing teeth to grazing teeth. There were many side branches that simply died out. Our own ancestry is similar, in that we are the sole species surviving from a branching "bush" of forms.
