Do you do all of your grocery-type shopping in one place or do you split it up? For example, do you buy everything but paper products at the grocery, but buy all your paper products and toiletries at a discount department store? Also, do you take advantage of coupons? Do you take the time to comparison shop using sale papers, or just go to whichever place is closest? Thank you!

Not a senior citizen, but I thought the question was interesting. I shop at Super Wal-Mart. Their regular prices are almost always lower, so I dont have to comparison shop much. They have everything, they are MUCH cheaper than any of the grocery stores in my area, and they also have other departments (tire & lube, nail salon, mcdonald's, etc.) I use coupons, but only for the more expensive items I buy.

But that's just me. I'm sure someone will have an Anti-Walmart response : )

We live out in the country a bit, so I shop at stores near the other places I need to go to. There is a little local grocery store, not to far away that I like to shop at, it has great prices. I shop at discount stores, esp for brand items no one else sells and at dollar stores too. I just get what I need where it's handy and the prices are good. Places I shop varies.

If I see something on sale I need, I will often purchase it, if I'm going that way. I do use coupons, if they save me $, but often even with the coupon the brand name is to expensive.

We don't have a super Walmart nearby, but I get as much as I can at our small one. Just find that I can do much better there on the paper products, detergents, pet foods, etc. Have to go to the regular grocery stores for meats and things, but will shop at whichever has the best sales on that particular week. They're both just down the road, so distance doesn't play into it. George checks out the sale papers every Sunday...he has more patience than I do. And I don't bother cutting out coupons anymore...never remembered to take them along and they would just sit here and expire!

You're welcome, Lady G.... have a great day!

I do mix things up a bit.

I have a favorite grocery store/supermarket that I visit once or twice a week.

I go to a 'big box' store every 6 to 8 weeks for paper goods, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. I may pick up some food while I'm there. I might also look at other items; seasonal items, or other household items. If I need supplies sooner, I pick them up at my grocery store; the time-gas-crowds aren't worth more frequent trips.

I have a local produce market and two farmer's markets that I use. I go to at least one of them every week, and sometimes the produce market on a week day and the farmer's market on the weekend-so 2 times in one week.

I go to a local pharmacy once or twice a month; for health care items my grocery store and the big box store do not carry.

I do not use coupons, but I should. I refuse to shop at places that use 'preferred customer' programs. I do look for sales and in store specials. Instead of driving around to pick up an item on sale at one place, I wait until it is on sale at my favorite store and then stock up. I can't see driving around too much from store to store...the wasted gas takes away from any savings.

I take care of my parents plus work at a job. We live just 2 miles from town and my job is in town. So if they need me to pick up something before I come home they call me and have me to pick it up on the way home. But when they do the main shopping, I take my dad to Aldis across the river and shop there for some stuff, then coming back, we stop at Wal-Mart for more stuff. Then we hit the Dollar Stores for the rest of it.

We do try to shop where we can save the most money. But it does always work out that way. Such as milk, I will buy it here instead of going 5 or 6 miles to get it a little cheaper as it would cost more in gas than it would save if that is all that we were going to get. All our pop comes from either the Dollar Store or Wal-Mart, which ever one we are the closest to.

We live in the US as well.

I do my grocery shopping at a grocery store, stock up on paper products as they go on sale and buy soaps, hair care and personal items at Target, Shopko or Kmart. I don't use coupons, but I do look at what is on sale and shop where the best prices are. I do not and will not shop at Wal Mart.

I live in small town USA and there are only two groceries. One is much cheaper than the other but doesn't always have everything I may need. There are dollar stores that we use for households and if the coupon is a better bargain, I definitely use them.
Wal-mart 's about 30 miles away so that's a once a month stop if necessary.
Love them boonies!

We do A LOT of business with Wal-Mart superstore and Sam's for everything from foods to paper products, office supplies, cleaning supplies, books, etc., and drug and toiletry items.
But we still have to go to 3-4 different grocery stores to get everything we want in the perishables. Hate that.

We shop on a weekly basis so we don't have a lot of wasted food at all. But we stock up at places like Sam's because they sell in larger quantities so we have our "supply cupboards" where we keep our most used products that we get at significantly reduced prices when purchased in bulk.

I have been in Westgate shopping centre yesterday and I was surprised seeing so many shops open. It was not that busy though. We usually shop before hand and make sure that we have want we want for the holidays and weekend. I also thought about the issue of throwing away foods till I learned that some shops donate the 'unsalable' foods to children homes and less privileged. I only learned that when my farther in law helped out at a children's home. A good thought I think.

I shop around. I go to Giant (our Balt/Wash) grocery store
chain for certain things, meats, produce and some
other items. I sometimes go to Target or Wal-Mart for
bulk items and basics. I usually split up my shopping.
Coupons are too much trouble, and they're only good if
you buy that product anyway. I look for sales. I'm a great
bargain shopper. Clothes, I usually have to try on.
