You first have to find a common denominator before you can add.

Look at multiples of 12 to see what is a factor of both 3 and 8. Examples include 12, 24, 36, 48, 60.

Next look ay multiples of 8. 8,16,24,32,40,48.
You will see 24 and 48 are multiples of both 8 and 12.

Now try 3. 3,6,9,12,15,18,24,27,30. You will see 24 is also a multiple of 3. So your lowest common multiple is 24.

Now convert 2/3, 3/8, 8/12 to 24th.

8/12 is easy you just multiply top and bottom by 2. 8/12 = 16/24.

3/8 you multiply top and bottom by 3. 3/8 = 9/24.

2/3 you multiply top and bottom by 8. 2/3 = 16/24.

Now add together 16/24 + 9/24 + 16/24.
When you add fractions the bottom number(denominator) doesn't change. It is 24.

The top number (numerator) is 16+9+16= 41

So the answer is 41/24. However 41 is bigger than 24 so this is an improper fraction and must be simplified.

41/24 = 24/24 + 17/24.

24/24 = 1 so the answer is 1 17/24

17 is a prime number so this cannot be simplified any further. The answer is 1 17/24.

You must find the lowest common denominator. This is done by finding the lowest common multiple of 3, 8, and 12

3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24
8,16,24
12,24

24 is the lowest common multiple

2/3 x 8/8 = 16/24
3/8 x 3/3 = 9/24
8/12 x 2/2 = 16/24

(16+9+16)/24 = 41/24 or 1 17/24

to characteristic the fractions multiply each and every fraction to furnish the backside common denominator, which for that reason is 24: 2/3*8=sixteen/24 3/8*3=9/24 5/12*2=10/24 then upload up the magnificent of each and every fraction and placed it over that denominator: (sixteen+9+10)/24 it is comparable to 35/24 then you definately can divide the magnificent of the fraction by skill of the backside of the fraction, supplying you with a million 11/24 i dont truly be attentive to if that's what you needed...yet im bored and meant to be revising maths so i did it besides.

2/3 + 3/8 + 8/12

3 = 3
8 = 2x2x2
12= 2x2x3

LCD = 2x2x2x3 = 24

2(8)/3(8) + 3(3)/8(3) + 8(2)/12(2

first make all the denominators equal.

so the common denominator will be 24 between 3,8&12

now convert the numerator.
for 2/3 multiply by 8
for 3/8 mltiply by 3
for 8/12 multiply be 2

so now
16/24+9/24+16/24
41/24
