Yes, it's true! There have been reported cases where grave robbers tried to remove the corpse from the coffin, but it was so dense with hair and nails that it couldn't be extracted! Is it Halloween yet?

No it is not true.
The reason that hair and nails look longer on a corpse is because the body fluids are reduced and the body mass shrinks somewhat..put plainly, the body dehydrates and the fingers reduce slightly as does the face when there is no circulation and no fluids in these areas to plump them up.
Have you ever seen a dead plant grow? A dead animal grow? It is ridiculous to think that anything on a human being will grow after death.
And, hair and nails are already dead cells to begin with! The body is sloughing them off and that is how they grow, so when the body is dead, the cells that produce these things are dead as well, and where there is death, nothing original to the body will grow.

False. This is a myth. The hair & nails appear to grow but that's only because your skin dehydrates & pulls back.

That is why the put people in coffins so that the ever growing finger and toe nails get contained and don't pop through the ground in cemetarys. That would be really gross!

No, they do not. That was just a silly rumor. It was said that it appeared to be so, because the skin started to shrivel, making it look that way.
