I just went to the doctor today and they told me that my strep b test was positive. They would treat with penicillin antibiotics during labor. One problem is I am allergic to Augmentin, a type of penicillin. They will redo the test to test the bacteria's sensitivity and to see what they can treat me with during labor so that it does not pass to the baby. Has anyone been positive on their Strep B test when pregnant. What type of antibiotics did they treat you with?

As far as I know I'm just allerigic to Augmentin. A tiny drop of it gives me hives. The pill gives me a full body rash. I've taken Amoxicillin before with no effects.

Talk to your doctor and explain about the antibiotics that make you ill.
You just need to speak up !

Good luck and congratulations.

They can wait and give the antibiotics directly to the baby. Or they can use a different antibiotic.

Its common, dont worry about it.

The strep b is a common bacteria in the skin of many many women, its not something new. They have just learned over the years that babies can get lung infections as a result down the line. But they can give the antibiotics just to the baby. They do this a lot with moms who give birth outside of the hospital.

I am also Strep-B positive but when I had my first child they didn't test for it...my daughter ended up becoming infected and spent her first 10 days of life in NICU..not a fun way to start out.
I don't quite remember what antibiotic i was given for my other pregnancies but I am sure you can get one that does not have a penicillin base and still be okay...since you already know you have it..your still ahead of the game...Good luck hun and have a safe delivery.

I tested positive with strep B during my 3rd pregnancy....they treated me with plain ole penicillin during labor....1 out of every 3 women test positive, it's not really a big deal...they will find something that they can treat you with...are you just sensitive to augmentin or is it all antibiotics?

There are plenty of antibiotics to use. I was positive, and alergic to penicillin. Just make sure the doctor knows about it. Nothing to worry. If your doctor doesn't even know what antibiotics to use, I'd say SWITCH DOCTOR!

Not sure about the type of antibiotics. But it's very common. So don't worry. They put you on anitbiotics couple of weeks before the delivery and will give you IV during labor. Good luck!

I tested positive with my son, they just gave him a shot after he was born, I didn't get anything. From what I understand its very common, I wouldn't stress over it to much.
