I noticed that it's the fourth night in a row i'm having a cup of whiskey. I hope this is not an indication of some budding addiction as i rarely drink. anyway, do you do it too? is this bad? and more what do you drink?
it kinda takes the edge off, i feel relaxed

but doctors say it's good to have one or two glasses of wine a day! sorry for misspelling. so if i don't drink nothing only on my birthday and new year's eve, and i don't drink in bars, you have the right to dish me like that. you're just a bunch of liars. the whole world knows americans drink a lot.

Doctors do say that having a glass of wine or two has health benefits. Although, you're talking about whiskey and not wine. I don't think there are any health benefits from drinking whiskey.
There's nothing wrong with having a nightcap. I wouldn't want that nightcap to define how I deal with stress. That nightcap could spawn into a stress reliever anytime of day. Then it is the seed of the budding addiction you mention.
As long as you feel the option to skip it without ramification then it's not a worry.
I don't do it. Doesn't bother me that people do. I don't judge them on it. I read. A little escapism to filter out the stress of the day.
I'd be more curious about the impetus of this budding ritual. What happened four days ago that started it? I'm sure it's isn't perpetuating the artist stereotype.

Personally, I don't drink any more because I have developed rather severe diabetes but when I was younger, I did a considerable amount of drinking and for a time I was drinking myself to sleep every night. I frankly don't recommend that route. I have no moral problems with drinking but the long term effects to your health are very bad and the short term effects to your decision making abilities are not good. You sound like a very bright, intelligent young lady and I'd hate to see you make a bad choice now that messes up your later life. Drunk driving or hooking up with the wrong person are only a couple bad choices that come to mind. I hate to start listing because I'd be sure to miss a possible bad decision and you could find it but I'm sure you get the idea. I don't want to sound like a moralist; I love a good time just like anyone else but please be careful.

There are times when I will do this every night for maybe a week, then there are other times when I won't have a drink of any sort for months at a time. This is indicative more of stresses occurring at the time and the availability of the alcohol than anything else. Because even when I'm stressed, if I haven't been to the store, I won't make a trip specifically to buy alcohol, but if it's handy, I'll get at it. (And it's usually bourbon, whiskey, or cognac.)

You confused two things....
Wine is good for digestion and circulation, recommended to drink it with meals.
A nightcap, even of wine, won't have the same impact.
A nightcap of whisky is not going to ruin your liver, toenails, sexlife or anything else --- as long as its not regular. Problem is, too easy to get hooked on it.
Try to limit it to highly stressful situations, or a night that you absolutely have to have great sleep and function at 110% the next morning.
I end up drinking one maybe once or twice a month, and its fine.
And gardner's are afraid of nightcaps.... they think its some kind of weed ;)

Nightcap. Common misspelling, I think. And yes, I usually have a small cup of Irish Whisky to relax and get ready for bed. No, its not really a problem. I think you have a problem when you have to drink any thing before afterhours.

I have a nightcap just before bed because I fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Not up and down all night.
In the summer a wine cooler, in the winter I like a cup of hot coco and baileys! Yum.

There is nothing wrong with relaxing with a drink at night. If it is just one it's no big deal. It would be a different story if you were getting trashed eery night. I like beer, coors light, i like have a couple after a stressful day on occasion too.

It is called a nightcap and no you do not have an addiction unless you crave a drink every day or think about the drink you will have at night when you wake up in morning.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with having a nightcap every now and then. I would want to make sure that I wasn’t doing it for the wrong reasons. As in stress relief. I think you need to find a real solution to long term stress and whisky isn’t it. As with all of our habits we need to make sure they are either good habits or at least worth our time. Personally, I don’t use alcohol out side of recreation and I don’t get enough of that, that’s for sure.
