The mature egg makes its way down through the fallopian tubes which, if intercourse occured the day before, the egg and sperm meet. To dispell any myth, conception begins in the fallopian tube which is how ectopic (tubal) pregnancies occur. The now dividing ball of cell or zygote, makes its way into the uterus where it imbeds itself. This is the future site of the placenta. I probably went too far but oh well lol. Good Luck with your health class.

Most scientists and medical professionals believe the female egg becomes fertilized within the fallopian tube. After this takes place, it travels down the tube - making it's longest journey until the passage of the baby through the birth canal. It takes approximately 5 to 12 days for the embryo to make this journey and become implanted in the lining of the uterus.
