I don't know about the law now, I've been riding since 1966. Back then, if you were a learner, you could carry a qualified driver on the pillion. Of course, things may have changed by now. And after reading the previous answers, it appears that law has changed also.

It may of changed but i know that 5 years ago, you needed a full bike license to carry a pillion but if the bike was below 50cc you could carry a pillion without a full license
