Names like Agnes, Beatrice or Gertrude sound too haughty, like stuck-up aristocrat haughty and too severe. No offense, people named Agnes, Beatrice or Gertrude.

I think Alexandra or Alexandria is a very formal and elegant name with a subtle underlying sense of power and sophistication. A name fit for a queen. There's alot of shortenings and nicknames for Alexandra-Alex, Ali, Ally, Lexa, Lexi... Teachers are more accepting of the use of nicknames nowadays.

I have always loved that name. That is the name we wanted to give both of our children "Alexandria or Alexandra" First one was a boy and the second one was a girl and we decided to stay with the "J" theme........we are all "J" names...so her name is Juliana but if we have another girl we would like to give her that as her middle name......we also considered Alejandra since we are hispanic...but I like Alexandra or Alessandra..........very strong and elegant name.

I like it, but I would suggest calling her Lexi instead of Alex it is more feminine!

It also is a beautiful middle name too!

Simone Alexandra

Alexandra is my middle name. I don't think it's too long and Alex or Alexa/Alexis is a cute nickname.

I think it's a great name - not severe or haughty at all.

A little too much. Try Lexi or Alex. Long names are hard on kindergarteners who write huge and have little hands.

It's beautiful and classic. Plus there are plenty of nicknames to choose from -- Ali, Alex, Alexa, Alexis, Lexi, Sasha -- so it can grow to suit a young child and an adult.
