This sing is about being there for someone else in their time of need. Listen to the lyrics, they say it all. "When you're down, feelin' blue......"

The bridge over troubled waters is an analogy. If you have to cross a raging river, wouldn't you rather cross over safely on a bridge. Swimming is out, a boat could be dangerous.

Being there for the person, giving them comfort, easing their troubled mind .... is what the song is all about. It is a beautiful way to tell someone that you will stand by their side and support them in times of trouble.

A good site to look at lyrics and get some opinions on song meanings is songmeanings.net. Like with art, song meanings have different interpretations according to the listener. Just type in the artist and a list with all their songs will come up.

Life with its problems is the troubled water (like a wild river). The singer is promising the person he loves that he will be like a bridge over troubled water - he will help his beloved one cross and overcome his troubles.

It's basically a frienship song.. someone pledging to be there for someone else (the person they're singing to) no matter what happens.. To help them through the rough times.

It's pretty straight foreaward, really...
