Our last kid has moved out and we want to settle down somewhere nice to grow old. A couple of criteria:
1. Need to be within a reasonable drive to a major airport 30-45 minutes at most.
2. Needs to be no further then 2 hr flight from Tucson AZ and Central CA. Have grandkids there.
3. Housing prices no higher then 350,000 and no HOAs or cookie cutter houses.
4. No unusual pest problems. I hate mosquitos, fire ants and snakes.
5. Nice climate.
6. Near water would be a huge plus.
7. Earthquakes don't bother us, but no tornado country.

Where is this place?

New Mexico, In the east mountain area of Albuquerque. It is beautiful here, and we don't have many mosquitoes. There are some lovely houses for less that 350000, and most of them have a little land with them. We have a brand new Wal mart that just came in, and there is a lot of other development. If you like, you can find an existing house, or have one built.
As to lakes, there are several within 2 hours. The Albuquerque Sunport is between 1/2 hour and 45 minutes away, depending on where you decide to live. We have 4 seasons here, but none of them are severe. Albuquerque is 1/2 hour away and has all the conveniences of any big city. I think you would like it very much.
