Ok so i just talked with my doctor about my ultrasound that i had on Monday which dated my pregnancy at 17weeks 4 days, so i was curious if that date includes the 2 weeks or so that you aren't actually pregnant(the time before conception) and he said it doesn't. Why i am confused is because the doc is basically saying i got pregnant just before my period, which i might add was a completely normal period(june13th/07), on time and full of fair sized clots. Also because i am on seizure meds i had to take HPT everyday that way i would know when to stop the seizure meds and i never got my positive until July9th/07. Would it really take that long for a positive to show up? Is my doctor wrong? He said ultrasounds at 17 weeks 4 days are very accurate to the day, is this also true?

Honestly, I'm confused too!
I thought that you were actually like two weeks pregnant already when you ovulate. That is what the book "What to expect when you're expecting" is telling me anyway. I'm not sure why he would say that it didn't include those two weeks between your period and ovulation.
Regardless, ultrasounds are pretty accurate, and I wouldn't worry about it being off by two weeks.
Good luck!!!

I think maybe your doctors confused when measuring the baby via ultrasound the 2 weeks are measured in. When I went for my 20 week ultrasound the doctor told me I measured exactly what I had all along including them 2 weeks. So maybe your doctor didn't fully understand the question, hopfully that's it otherwise I'd consider getting another doctor.

the ultrasound is more accurate than the time frame they give you based on last period. the ultrasound ages the baby based on size and development. the estimated due date counts from your last period because they don't know the actual date of conception based on that information. that's where they get the plus or minus two week thing.

The ultrasound is not accurate to the day, but within a few days, yes. I actually knew the date of conception because I had trouble getting pregnant and we did intrauterine insemination where they used a tube to insert my husband's sperm into me near my fallopian tubes. My ultrasound said the baby was two days older than he actually was....and we were certain because we had to abstain for five days prior to the procedure.

Believe your doctor.
ultrasounds are very accurate.
especially to tell how many weeks you are.
and believe me,
I am 20 weeks and I never had one positive result so , just because you are very fertile doesn't mean anything.
It could of been to early in the pregnancy to get a positive.

they count from your last period... so the baby would really only be about 15-16 weeks old from the actual time of conception. Maybe the baby is just measuring bigger but is you would only be like 15 weeks but is measuring at 17 weeks... Im predicting a 10lb baby! :) Congratulations!!!

No doctor can exactly tell when you conceived it is basically a guestimation (sp?) by looking at your last menstural and speculate when you ovulated. Every women is different. And don't forget also that you are not pregnant for only 9m it's more like almost 10.

It takes anywhere from 3-7 days for the fertilized ovum to travel from the fallopian tube and implant into the uterus. So you can get pregnant and have a period at the same time.
I have my son from sex we had ON my period. Talk about a screwy system. lol.
