With the Railpass you paid all your travel by rail. There are very few trains in Germany, mostly bordercrossing ones, which have obligatory reservation. But for the holiday season I recommend reservation for the long distances. Otherwise it can happen, that you are standing in the train from Berlin to Munich. For Munich to Dachau (Regional trains) a reservation is not possible. For ICE/IC from Munich to Garmisch it is not necessary. There are regional exress trains on this line too.
In Frankfurt Airport you can board the long distance trains as well as regional trains. But watch out: regional trains leave from tracks 1 to 3 directely beneath the terminal, the long distanc trains have their own station, 5 minutes walk away. Both stations are marked in German and in English:
Regionalbahnhof/regional trains
Fernbahnhof/long distance trains
For schedules check
www.bahn.de
There you can make the reservation too.

You need to check the individual trains you're going to take to see if a reservation or supplement is required. If so, it still might be cheaper to get the train pass.
Go to the German Rail website;
www.bahn.de
There you can view the schedules, type in the exact dates and times you want to travel, and see the proces of indiv. tickets. If you don't speak German, here's the link to the English section:
http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

Just add up your tickets and compare to the rail pass.
Some trains may be crowded, like if you want to take a night train and get a couchette (extra $$) you should make a reservation a day or two in advance. On most trains you can just go and get on with no reservation, but check the schedules for trains that have an "R" for reservation required, or look for the word "ZUSCHLAG" which means a supplementary fee may be required.
I love the trains in Germany. You'll be comfortable and may go very fast on some trains.
