Are you the type who takes the time to honestly put an effort into giving an answer only to have the person asking the question put it to a vote? I know some people just want the two points while others actually put some time and thought into it. Which do you think is best though, a volume of empty answers and witticisms or a handful of solid facts? I admit that I can occasionally be flippant and silly as well as serious in my responses but I was just wondering how other people make their determinations. Which approach do you use more often?

I put alot of time in to my answers and it is disappointing when someone picks a really stupid answer but I think that is usually among friends who are just trying to get points. Yes I would like to get points too, but I am all about playing fairly and being honest. I am surprised by how many thumbs down I get when I mention prayer or love for my husband or family or my son with down syndrome. Like the old song says, "People are strange"

When I answer I answer, pending on the subject, as throughly and honestly as I can...if it's a question asking for help on certain things, if I happen to know the material I'll just write down what I know or what they need know. If it's a silly question I just answer in response to it's silliness, if it is picked it's always good yes to have the asker pick it, but I find it better when the others vote for your answer as the best, then it's being judged by your peers on a subject that others (even those who answered) can choose the best answer...either way being accepted for the best answer is an honor.

there's a large massive difference between deliberately putting ones inquiries to the vote and negligently permitting them to expire. the large majority of questions that finally end up in vote casting finally end up there because the asker would not provide a monkey's about the ten factors the answerers imagine is their rightful due. nerve-racking, definite. although, those askers are nonetheless fairly best to those who delete their very personal questions when they have were given the answer!

I also put thought and time into my answers. It irritates me a little when I've spent a lot of time with an answer and it goes to vote. I always chose my best answer.

I prefer for the asker to choose me as the best answer as I usually look forward to their responses and it feels more personal the when the community votes for the best answer as it's impersonal. However I will still take the best answer regardless as a best answer is still a best answer.

i prefer the questioner to select best answer. sometimes i will avoid answering people who always put their questions into voting. i don't care about getting 2 or 10 points. but, i think it cheats people when they put it into voting.
