I thought one but when i did the syllabel break and clap thing i got two....unlike cloud, free, stair...which are all one syllabel...

My parents have (ca-li-for-ni-a) as 5 and (di-ap-er) as 3
I guess it is in the pronunciation.

Check a dictionary. There may be more than one pronunciation.
