am in need of advise?
I rented a car for a week while i was on vacation, i declined all of the optional insurance ect as i am insured. The cost was 280 for the time we were on vacation. We returned our car last wednesday, at the time we pulled up and a guy walked around the car to inspect it looked inside real quick, check it the gas was full and printed out a recipt and told us here is your final charge have a great day. Today checking online i noticed they charged my 976.93. I called them right away, i took for every to contact some one, but finaly i got ahold of someone and he told me they found a chip in the cars windsheld and they had to replace the windsheld. He told me that i declined other charges therefore i have to pay the damages. What can i do, i did not notice a chip but those things can be unnoticed. I asked him how do you know that someone did that after i droped it off. I have the recipt showing the final charges 288.30

First, dispute the charges with your credit card company.

Then, be sure you have the paperwork they gave you when you returned the car as well as your original contract for it. Read it for your rights here. They had the opportunity to inspect the car when you turned it in. By not making a thorough inspection and notifying you of the damage on the spot, they may have "waived" their right to claim the damage later.

That might be spelled out in the contract and receipts.

If not, you may still make this defense if they take you to small claims court. You also would claim that they cannot prove that the chip occurred while the car was in your possession.

You asked this question the other day. Did you not like the answers? Take your receipt back to the car rental place and ask how they can charge when the car has been inspected and passed. This should not be your problem, but that of the person who inspected and signed off on the receipt.

The final invoice should have been your charges. Did you read the contract to see if they had rights to make charges after you paid? When you rent the car, you accept the car as they are telling you. Once you turn it in, they are suppose to sign and accept.
