Well there are two counterparts, the Core Duo and the Core 2 Duo. Both are actually superior, the Core Duo only very slightly, but the Core 2 Duo is easily ahead. This is nothing against AMD, they make good products, but the benchmarks are pretty clear on this debate, the Core 2 Duo peform better, and use less power. Now if you are looking for a budget laptop, you might consider the Turions, but other than that, there is no real reason to not go with a Core 2 Duo.

I would stay with AMD as it is better graphically and I have had great performance and reliability with the one in my 3 year old laptop. I have 2nd newer IBM Laptop that has 1gb ram 1.80 ghz speed and a Intel Pentium 4 chipset. My Compaq with 540 ram and 1.60 ghz has the AMD Athlon chip and is a faster and graphically better laptop. They both have the same type of display screens. I run mine side by side often and really think the AMD is better. Their Turion chip should be ahead of any current Intel design also. I can only point out past reliability as I don't have either of their brand new chipsets.

Intel core2 duo is the best notebook processor, the turion is fine but the core2 duo has better performance.
EDIT; the latest "santa rosa" core2 duo processors are the best on the market.

???? What's that smell??

AMD burning!!

Intel makes a Core 2 Quad for laptops, also Core 2 Duo. And they don't burn up!

Good luck!

Not sure. See which processor has more L2 cache. Check a review site such as cnet.com and read user reviews. Best to you! ;-)=
