Ther is something on, in my car that is draining my battery. The battery is ok had it checked. I checked all my bulbs that come on ,radio, glove, cigarette lighter, ash tray , hood light, ect. The only electrical part I had put on was my hatch back light, which they taped wires, that was around 2 months ago. But the light is not on all the time just when I apply my brake. The alternater is charging the battery when I start driving. But it does make my ABS light come on, my speedometer bounces, and my engine speed up and then slow down. after a few miles of this she back to normal.

You're looking at 1 of 2 possible problems. The first and most likely is probably the beginnings of alternator failure. The lights appearing on the dash is a major indiciation of alt problems. It's most likely providing a solid charge to the battery when the car is running and then allowing the charge to dissipate once the vehicle is shut down.

The other potential issue is a bad ground. This will cause similar symptoms, allowing the battery to drain itself overnight...it's doubtful you have anything "pulling" power from the battery once the ignition is turned off.

You can have your alternator tested for free at most auto parts stores, if it comes back with a "bad diode" you've found the culprit. If it does not inspect the major ground sources in your vehicle (i.e. the ground cable from the battery to the chassis).

Hope this helps!

To see if there is something on or drawing the battery down, simply disconnect the battery negative cable. and attach a test light between the cable end and the neg. post. If you have a draw the light will come on and stay on bright.
However it sounds likely that the third brake light was wired incorrectly. the anti lock brake system could be affected-and possibly affect there function. I would have it checked out by a chevy dealer. brakes are nothing to play around with . Use a professional.

I suspect a problem with your alternator.
It sounds as if there is a problem with the diodes in the alternator. A diode works like a one way valve. If your alternator is charging your battery when the car is running then everything is fine. Except when you shut the car off. If the diodes in the alternator have failed then they don't hold the current from leaking back from the battery and through the alternator thus creating a situation where they drain the battery.

hope this helps. Have the alternator checked.

To know for sure if that is the problem or not simply remove the light and see if that fixes the problem. It could be that it was just wired wrong causing others to malfunction. If this problem has started since you have had that done it is the most likely candidate.

Sounds like a short in the electrical system. Start with the taped wires and see if they are touching.
