any help or info would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Your in London so I'm assuming things are a bit different there but I'll tell you how it works here and maybe there's something similar there. Here in the US we have Home depot where you go for all your do it yourself home repair/ remodeling tools, and appliances, they give free classes on how to install tile, toilets, fixtures, whatever you can think of , maybe there's something like that there where every time you take a course you get a certificate and that would assist you with getting work. Also you can put an add in the paper for minor work just to get some experience.

Well something to think about is that it might feel good to do all the work yourself, but your looking at the fact its going to take you longer to finish the project as it would if you hired someone and if this is not going to be your only job then your looking at very limited amount of time to work on the property.. If you are planning on living in the house and building equity over time I think your going about it the right way.. if whoever you are planning on doing one selling and doing another and this is going to be your only job you should really look at hiring out the work.. It might cost you more, but it will get it done a lot faster.. The extra money you spend on a contractor will come back to you in the fact you won't be paying as much in mortgage payments.

Also think about the market and how its declining and if your looking to sell rather then rent this house out you should make sure you can buy for cheap.. Most Investor make there Money on the Front end of the deal not the back end of the deal..

Hope this helps

Cheers

Start small. Your idea about first getting a property that just needs painting and updating is good. Paint can make a tremendous difference! And putting down floor tile isn't that difficult. The key with painting and any renovation is PREPARATION, proper surface preparation. Taking a course or working part-time for some one is a good idea. Don't leave your day job yet. It's amazing how much everything costs, even paint and brushes and other supplies.

Basically, any Home Renovation guides you'll be able to study will likely be lucrative on your complete lifestyles, it doesn't matter what your profession or selected subject finally ends up being. We are DIYer's and I find it irresistible. My Hubby does electric, plumbing, tile. I love to paintings with wooden, portray, wall therapies, redecorating stuff. Yes it's a laugh, time drinking and such a lot of all so very beneficial and pleasant. We each had different careers, and continuously and nonetheless are operating on our residence, and we did the equal with the earlier houses we have now owned. You can certainly not pass incorrect with finding out new matters...mainly with the ones forms of rewards.......and pleasure.

I would try putting an add somewhere to advertise your work.
