I just left my school. I needed to speak to a counselor regarding registration. While we were talking about my academic career--which is HIS JOB--which should take top priority for all parties involved, a lady from another room came into his office to drop off a stack of paperwork. He thanked her, she turned to walk out and he literally stopped talking to stare at her butt as she walked away. Because he was in midsentence as this incident happened, he could not remember where in his ramblings that he had left off. I even turned around to see if she was really worth all of this trouble. The answer? No. Once she was gone he couldn't remember where he had stopped talking. As it turns out, the class I needed was full and I couldn't get in so I needed to talk to him about other options. He couldn't stop staring out of his office door at people passing by his door long enough to keep a sentence straight. Nothing was resolved and I left pissed off.
Is this even worth my anger?

1. He's a regular guy.
2. It is worth your venting.
3. Next time, what you need to do is sit upside-down, you know - like on your head, with your butt up in the air pointing his way, that way his piss-poor man-attention will be focused on - well, if not YOU, at least YOUR butt...

Like I said before, these councilors are very bitter people. They have failed at their endeavors and are stuck in a crappy office listening to people complain. Yes, you are right, it is his job and his priorities were obviously way off mark. Just as you should do with the other woman you spoke to earlier who told you all hope was gone, you should file a complaint. Tell their boss that they have made things harder on you both on a professional and personal level. And if you wanted to (And I'm not saying anything) you could also use your age to your advantage. Let them know that you feel to a strong disadvantage because you are older than the rest of the class and are tossed aside.

Please don't give up.

YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a similar situation with a counselor when I was in seminary. He would not keep appointments, was always sidetracked by students who just wanted to come in and chat with him, and rarely ever let you finish a sentence when you were trying to explain things. Since he had a physical disability, he knew he could should discrimination whenever the school even thought of calling him to account for his actions. I would strongly suggest you go to your dean and report this joker! Even if nothing gets done (I have found University front offices to be filled with "Good Ol' Boys" who watch out for each other) at least this guy will know that somebody issued a formal complaint.

I would be very agravated with this mans inability to do his job and to give you the respect and attention you need and you should demand! Is their someone other than Mr. Stareafar to help you with this? Go to a teacher you trust/or have another person go with you ,again.See if he acts any different then.If not,go over his head..this is your life your talkin about! Your probably under enough stress in school and trying to become a somebody as it is.Fight for YOUR right to get what you need from this school!

You were kind in your venting? I received a notice from a Yahoo this morning on my question last evening warning me that I had violated the terms of agreement. I was turned in by an old biatch that has nothing better to do with her time. No wonder she is still single at the age of 139 years old. She reported me for slamming the cry baby athiest in this day care center...............

If it was a really incredible butt, it could leave most men speechless. Since this was sub-prime, you have a right to be angry.
People who are bad at their jobs piss me off too. If you are going to do something, do it well and as best you can.
If you need to deal with this guy again, you can use his weakness to your advantage. If you ever need to ask a favor of him, or get out of a bad situation, dress scantily, or have a sexy friend come with you to distract him.

although he is acting like a TRUE MAN he could have used a lot more discretion.obviously some men 's minds get clouded when they see a big fat @ss walk by and he has the mind of a little boy who gets easily distracted.why did'nt you tell him that you were in his office for HIS guidance instead of his being disrespectful to you your scholarly needs.you dont have to put up with that.

Sure, it's worth getting angry over, as long as you get over it soon and realize that people are rude sometimes. I would go back to him and explain (in a calm way) how he offended you by not giving you his full attention. Explain that these decisions he is supposed to be helping you with are very important to you and to other people who may seek his help. It may snap him out of it...he may not even realize he's doing it...which is sad in and of itself! :)

Yes, you have everyr ight to be angry.
What are you going to do about it? That is the question.
I would go back and tell him you are not confident he totally understood your point and could you please go over it again. And shut the door! If he complains, tell him you noticed he was distracted yesterday and you would like his full attention.
