most guys feel that way. We are not that "in touch with" our inner feelings to be able to apply them to others plus we are too "macho" to admit it.

No,it's not you !
It's him !
I am a man and like most of us we are not unaware of the
rest of the world and how can you not feel for the homeless
the hungry, the helpless people devestated by wars and
power struggles that have caused most of this ?
Has he never been or heard of the UN and the UNICEF
program ?
The Mormon,Jewish,Catholic,Muslim and other Organizations
missions and efforts to help the helpless all over the world?
Does he have a TV?
Has he not seen the mothers with their starving babies
in Zimbabwe and African nations ?
Even the rich are not spared when it comes to pain
of losing loved one's---has he no brothers he might
hate to lose ?
As a boy I saw Civil War Veterans returning with no
arms and legs---during later wars I visited Military
Hospitals with the USO and saw "Basket Cases"
(have him look it up!)
Have you ever seen the movie "Wizard of Oz"
Seems like something is missing !

I am a man and I don't understand how your man can feel that way. It sounds like he could never understand anyone else's POV. I learned a long time ago, that the best way to operate in life is to look at everything from someones shoes. This way you never have to apologize because you have thought things out before you acted, people like you better because you are kinder, and it makes you stronger in your convictions because you have already thought everything through. It prevents alot of that drama and alot of going back and forth. I think women understand more but it sounds like you man is just selfish.

Some men just don't know how to open up and put themselves in that position. It does have a lot to do with peoples upbringing though. It seems easier for people who have been through more.

No, it just means he hasn't been taught how to do that (which does not reflect well on his upbringing). Many men have empathy for their fellow-humans, and many females do not...it's not a mutually exclusive gender thing. (It's probably an attribute you possess because you've been through a lot.)

its not because you are a woman because a lot of men can do it very well.I think some people are just more aware of others feelings and situations and dont feel afraid to show emotion.

its because you care about others feelings and what is happening with them and he don't...and no not all guys are like this...having compassion for someone is very normal...but some don't...they are self centered or just care about their family...so no not all guys are like this..
