happiness isn't an emotion but it is a decision, if your trauma can cause you not to make an optimistic decision, i think a professional help is needed. but if you re saying this metamorphically, my answer is still yes.

Yes.
The person has to set up a mental block probably as relates to a catastrophe.
The person creates his/her own amnesia to prevent them from ever feeling sadness or pain.
It happens a lot.
They even made a movie with Adam Sandler about such a case . It was called "Reign Over Me". It concerns a 911 survivor who loses his entire family and block their deaths out by dis associating with anything that reminds them of his prior life.
So yes, it is possible, if the trauma is severe enough.

Happiness means nothing if you've never felt sad in your life. It will become boredom if you are constantly in one state.
However, If you want to get deep, there is a state called 'nirvana', the state of pure bliss (due to purity of mind and absense of suffering)- it is a state that buddhists aim for.

Ah, and such suffering it can be! LOL. Happiness is a decision, not a destination. So yes, it is possible, & probably one of the greatest lessons here.

That Happiness means self-sacrificing?We can learn to be happy, once we experienced pain and hardships in life..Thats part of being alive....
And we can be happy in the midst of trials..and difficulties....coz life is a matter of choice...
